Aboard the Voskhod-2 with Commander Pavel Belyaev and co-pilot Alexei Leonov, a new chapter in space exploration had been started. After Leonov successfully per formed the first space walk for twelve minutes and nine seconds, Belyayev prepared to return to Earth. However, due to a system failure, Belyayev was forced to perform a manual re-entry, another first in man’s history of space exploration. Both astronauts worn Sturmanskie watches during this extremely challenging mission.
